How Can I Help Heal Your GI Tract?

Do you suffer one of the common gastrointestinal disorders, such as chronic indigestion, GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), constipation, bloating, or food intolerances? Can these be resolved, instead of just getting relief from their symptoms? Absolutely!

In conventional medicine, the clinician typically knows how to suppress a particular symptom, such as acidic symptoms, or depression, or high cholesterol. In Functional Health Care, we determine the origins of the symptoms, the underlying causes, and the types of treatment to restore proper function in order to restore optimal health. Once the problem is resolved, symptoms naturally cease or disappear. Furthermore, it is quite possible that other seemingly unrelated health problems get resolved. What a nice side effect! One patient that consulted me for Irritable Bowel Syndrome saw great improvement of her PMS symptoms and got pregnant sooner than expected. Read her testimonial in my Gut Health = Great Health article.

How can a Functional Health Care physician like me help heal your GI tract?

The first step is to assess the condition of your gut and how it is affecting other systems in your body. This is done through advanced lab tests, which we call Functional Laboratory testing. These tests identify the underlying causes of problems, not just pathology.

The next step is to put together a customized 4R Program according to your health history and lab results. The 4R Program is the Functional Medicine therapeutic approach for the GI tract. It consists of the following:

  1. Remove pathogenic bacteria, parasites, pathogenic yeasts, food allergies, etc. Are any pathogenic bacteria like H. Pylori present? Are parasites present? Are there any pathogenic yeasts present such as Candida? Are there any foods that temporarily need to be eliminated, such as gluten-containing foods, which can cause autoimmune responses? Are food sensitivities or food allergies present requiring temporary removal of offending foods from the diet?
  2. Replace HCL, digestive enzymes, and amino acids. Is the stomach producing enough HCL? What about digestive enzymes? Are tissue stores of basic nutrients, like amino acids, very depleted?
  3. Reinoculate with beneficial bacteria. Are the levels of beneficial bacteria present in the gut depleted? How long has it been depleted? How frequently has it been depleted by use of antibiotics, antacids, anti-inflammatory medicines, or corticosteroids?
  4. Repair the mucosal lining of the GI tract. Are certain foods, such as high sugars, inhibiting repair processes? Is there impairment of nerve function affecting the ENS, requiring chiropractic or acupuncture? A variety of specific nutrients and supplements, properly dosed and timely given are required for repair.

This approach is very effective in getting to the root cause of the problem and resolving it. For comprehensive functional diagnosis and resolution of your GI tract problem, contact us. If you want to make an in-office or phone consultation, start by filling out our medical forms. Print them, complete the first three forms, and then send them back to us. We look forward to helping your GI tract heal.

I have been suffering from severe headache for 45 years. I read your article on Klinghardt's neural therapy and mercury. I have been severely poisoned by mercury from amalgam fillings. My teeth consisted of amalgam fillings. About 25 years ago a dentist told me that my fillings were leaking and proceeded to remove them all in 2 sessions, first the lower then the upper jaw. Needless to say this was done without the proper protocol. He then fitted metal onlays onto what remained of my teeth. Three years ago I had 13 teeth removed by a maxillo surgeon who knows how to clean the jawbone properly from cavitations etc. That I survived is only due to the fact that I am highly conscious nutritionally because of poor health. I have been for extensive detox under the care of a doctor trained by Klinghardt which probably saved my life. In the process of constant research to find a solution to severe, almost daily headaches, (not migraines), I have learnt a tremendous amount and am able to advise many other people. I have tried everything, emotionally I have cleared everything as far as is possible although I cannot access the memory of abuse which happened before consciousness. I would dearly like to try neural therapy but nobody in South Africa practises that and my detox doctor can't do it because he says the use of procaine Is not allowed in this country. We have a headache clinic in SA where they do extensive tests to find out where the haeadache comes from neurologically. The final solution for them is cauterization of arteries and removal of trigger points in muscles. They don't recognise mercury toxicity as a possible cause. I have also been given a biteplate by my excellent metal free dentist to correct a TMJ problem which I have had since childhood but which was exacerbated after starting to wear dentures after my backteeth were removed. This alleviated a lot of pain emanating from my neck. I also discovered that part of the pain was due to chronic sinusitis without congestion and eliminated bacteria and fungus with neti pot concoctions with salt, bicarb, zylitol, ACV and origanum oil. The sinus pressure points are no longer tender. The main problem, I believe, now comes from my liver. I wake up round about three in the morning with headache starting. I am vey careful with diet, practise NART on myself but it seems that my gut cells are so leaky that my system can hardly tolerate anything. To make matters worse, I use painkillers just about everyday otherwise I would be lying flat on my back all the time. I am constantly chelating with chlorella, CGF and ester C. Have you got any other suggestions for me? I would be most appreciative of advice. Rachel
I had a sever problem that sent me to the hospital on the first day of this year. After a bunch of tests for heart problems they concluded that I had GERD(without any testing for it or looking inside) and wrote some scripts for it...told to take tynol for the pain and take these pills. The PDR said not to mix with the tynol ingredents and the side effects of the scripts were more then I was willing to deal with. So, I came home and started on a routine of homeopathc remidies like Nux Vomica and Staphysagri and sucked on plain slippery elm several times a day. After several days my stomach started to calm down, pain started to go away. After a couple weeks I was back to what is normal for me. I did eliminate the gluten and sugar from my diet for the time and that also helped. One word of caution...slippery elm will slow the absorption of anything for about 2 hours so be careful if you need a medicine and using it.
